AutomaDoc for Google Workspace

The AutomaDoc add-on for Google Sheets turns the rows of a spreadsheet into filled Word, Excel, PowerPoint or PDF documents, from a sidebar in Google Sheets.

  1. Install AutomaDoc from the Google Workspace Marketplace, where it is coming soon. Until it is listed, connect Google Sheets in the Company Portal under Integrations and generate with the HTTP trigger or the document API.
  2. In your spreadsheet, open Extensions → AutomaDoc → Open.
  3. Sign in with Google, then Connect this spreadsheet once: Google asks you to select the spreadsheet, and AutomaDoc can read that file only.
  4. Create a template for the tab, upload a Word, Excel or PowerPoint file with placeholders named after your columns, select rows and generate.

The first row of the tab holds the column names (you can choose another Header row). Choose a Key column with unique values, such as an invoice number, so that sorting the sheet while documents are made cannot mix rows up. A Link column can receive a link to each generated document.

Every step, setting and message of the add-on is in The Google Sheets add-on.

Sign in with your Google account, in the add-on and in the Company Portal:

  • a Google Workspace account joins your domain’s AutomaDoc account; the first person from the domain is its admin;
  • a personal Google account (such as Gmail) gets an AutomaDoc account of its own.

See Sign in with Microsoft, Google or email.

AutomaDoc asks Google only for access to the spreadsheets you select for it and the files it creates in your Drive (Google’s drive.file permission). It never reads the rest of your Drive. That is why:

  • you select each spreadsheet once before generating from it;
  • pictures in your sheet must be public links, or Drive files you selected for AutomaDoc.

Disconnect in the add-on or on the Connections page of the Company Portal removes AutomaDoc’s access at Google.

Templates use the same syntax as on every platform, and your plan, seats and packs are the same whichever platform a document comes from. Plans are bought on our site through Paddle, not through Google. See Plans, seats and packs.
