Sign it myself

Sign it myself is for a document only you sign: a form to return to an office, a lease you were sent, a quote to accept. You upload it, place your signature and anything else it asks for, and download the signed PDF. Nobody is emailed unless you ask for a copy to be sent.

It is free and unlimited on every plan, Free included: it never uses a document from your allowance. You need an AutomaDoc account, and you start it from the Sign section of the company portal.

Upload a PDF, or a Word, Excel or PowerPoint file. It is prepared exactly as for a signature request: an Office file is converted to PDF, form fields are drawn into the page, links and other interactive parts are removed, and page images are made. The same limits apply: up to 10 documents, 25 MB per file, 300 pages in all.

Put on the pages what the document needs from you:

  • your signature and initials;
  • your name;
  • the date, filled with the day you sign;
  • text, for anything you type;
  • checkboxes.

You need at least one field. A document you sign often can carry [[…]] tags that place the fields for you: see Placing fields automatically.

Adopt your signature and initials by drawing, typing or uploading a picture, as a signer does (Adopting your signature). The picture is rebuilt from its pixels before it is stored.

Saved signature. You can save the signature and initials you adopt. Next time you sign it yourself, they are offered again and you do not draw them twice. You keep one saved signature and one saved set of initials: saving new ones replaces the old ones, and you can delete them. Saved signatures are used only in Sign it myself, never on a request someone else sends you.

When you finish, the document is signed at once. The signed PDF is made in a few seconds.

Download the signed PDF. The certificate of completion is not added to it, so a form you hand in does not grow extra pages; it is made anyway and you can download it on its own. With two or more documents you can also download them all in one PDF.

The certificate records the same as for a request: each file’s SHA-256 fingerprints, your agreement to sign electronically, when you signed, from which IP address and device, and the audit trail. The signed PDF can be checked on the verify page.

You can give one email address to send the signed copy to, for example the office that asked for the form. It receives “A signed copy of …” with the signed PDF attached (and the certificate as its own file) when they are under 3.5 MB together, otherwise a download link valid for 30 days.

Sending a copy emails someone from AutomaDoc, so it counts against the sending caps as one request to one recipient: on Free, 3 requests an hour and 20 recipients a day (5 in the account’s first 24 hours). An account paused after a report cannot send copies. Signing without a copy does not count against these caps.

  • Agreement. Before you sign, you tick “I agree to sign this document electronically, and that this electronic signature is my signature on it.” That is what is recorded, with the time, your IP address and the version of that sentence, and the certificate shows it as “Agreed to sign electronically”. A signer you send a request to agrees to the disclosure instead; you are not shown one here.
  • Audit trail. Each step is an event, chained by SHA-256 as in every request.
  • Files. The original file, the prepared PDF, the signed PDF and the certificate are kept until you delete them. Page images and your signature pictures are deleted 30 days after you sign; the signature stays in the signed PDF and the certificate.
  • Your saved signature and initials stay until you replace or delete them.
